Pack Dog Planning Annoucement:

Average temperatures for Oxford Ohio are a low of 50 degrees and high of 76 degrees.  Pack weigh in will start at 8 am at the trail head parking lot.  Hike will begin as soon as all packs are weighed.  Anticipated start time is 8:30 am.  If the weather indicates temperatures higher than 80 degrees, adjustments to the weigh in and start time may be made.  Packs maybe weighed on Sunday night at Hueston Woods and will be kept by the hike coordinator and returned to handlers at the trail head.

Directions to Trail Head:

From Hueston Woods lodge, head out to the main loop around the park and turn Right (West).  Follow to Park Exit on 732 and turn right (South) and head toward Oxford.  Follow 732 until it dead ends into the middle of campus. Turn Left (East) onto High Street and follow to stop sign.  Turn right (South) onto Patterson Ave and then turn left (East) onto 73 (Trenton-Oxford Road) at light and parking lot will be on the left.

Hike Description:

The terrain is moderate and may include wet or muddy areas.  The hike consists of two loops.  The first loop is 6.7 miles and will return hikers to the parking lot.  This loop starts along Harkers Run and follows the Bachelor Preserve Preserve East Loop, Reinhart Preserve Loop, Kramer Preserve Loop and returns to the parking lot via the Bachelor Preserve Loop.  This initial loop crosses Bonham Road, which will serve as a pail out point and access to emergency vehicles is necessary.

The second loop of 3 miles passes by Dewitt Cabin on it’s way to Four Mile Creek.  The return to the parking lot is via Marcum Loop.  This loop parallels Bonham Road at the 1.5 mile point.  This provides the necessary emergency vehicle access within the 3 mile regulation.
